Riding Hard Bennett Boys Ranch Book 2 edition by Lauren Landish Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews

  • Holy mother of all things fictional!
Can somebody get me a fan, please?

    I mean..

Mark Bennet, the oldest and most stoic of the Bennett boys- has taken his role of running the ranch and watching out for his brothers and mother very seriously.
He doesn't waste time on idle chit-chat and isn't for romance or dating, so meeting Katyln his brother James and his bride to be Sophie's new Event Coordinator throws him off his stoicism game!
-The Barbie Girl and The Cowboy-
When their paths keep crossing the sparks keep igniting, to the point of leaving a trail of flames behind them- but James has some demons he's not ready to divulge, a part of him he is afraid to show, leaving her lonely and full of questions and James- the way he's always been.
Until Katyln gets under his skin just enough...
    Woza!
Talk about an intense, heart-bending melted me into a puddle, sweet, made me smile, sexified Cowboy Ranch romance!
Their back and forth banter, off the charts chemistry, mama's all-knowing wisdom, Mark's brothers "playful" jabs all weaved into a heat fueled heart cinching read! A fantastic second book in the Bennett Boys Series! I did not want it to end! I love this family; I am so invested! I Want More!

  • I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Katelyn has just arrived in Great Falls and is excited about her new job with Mountain Spirit Hotel & Resort. She is the new events coordinator and she can't wait to start. Katelyn's first task is to plan the Bennett/Stone wedding. This is a big deal. James Bennett, top bull rider in the country, is marrying Sophie Stone. No pressure there.
Mark Bennett runs the Bennett Ranch and is older brother to James and Luke. Mark is a born rancher. It's in his blood. He's meticulous, intimidating and in total control of the ranch and of himself. After he meets Katelyn, he needs that control now more than ever. Mark's not supposed to be attracted to her. She's a city girl, not country. Mark needs a country girl that can handle him. When Mark holds Katelyn in his arms for the first time, he feels as if he's been branded. He's not used to this feeling. He's confused about his true feelings and fears rejection. Mark runs hot and cold. Katelyn makes him smile and laugh, but mostly, she makes him feel. Katelyn is everything a man could hope for. Mark is a rancher working long, hard hours with no time for a real relationship. Mark assumes Katelyn is going to want a man to be present in her life. To take her out and spend time with her. Start a family. All the things he can't give her while trying to take care of the ranch and his family. But most of all, Mark thinks she needs a better man.
    WOW. I LOVED MARK & KATELYN'S STORY💕
LOTS OF QUICK, FLIRTY BANTER AND AN INTENSE, UNDENIABLE CONNECTION THAT LEAD TO TOTAL SURRENDER BOTH PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY !
THE BENNETT BOYS RANCH SERIES IS A DEFINITE MUST READ ! ! !
  • I absolutely loved Riding Hard! Mark runs his family's ranch & has always been very serious. He has a wall up that no one can break down. Katelyn needs a new change in her life & takes a job as the event coordinator at a resort in the same town that Mark lives in. Mark's youngest brother is getting married & Katelyn just happens to be the person in charge of the wedding at the resort. Katelyn does something to Mark that no one else does. She sees another side of Mark that no one else gets to see. Mark just wants to be friends but the chemistry between them is unbelievable. Will Katelyn be the one to break through to Mark? I loved that the story had a little bit of sexual darkness to it too & it wasn't all vanilla or beige as Katelyn says. I love the connections between Mark's family too. I can't wait to read the next book in the series with the middle brother. Each book can be read as a standalone but they tie together nicely. Great job on another wonderful story Lauren Landish!
  • Difficult because the writing was very good, but it was a bit touchy subject matter (a trigger for some) so with that said there should be some kind of alert in the description, other than the one slightly hinted at. Even the book's title could be taken for anything. SPOILER alert Hero and heroine were very likable (on the surface for the hero anyway), story was very good, but I guess without the hero's secret/tendencies if you will, the entire story would have probably not been there. Two consenting adults who like rough play. Fine. But bruises on the back of her legs. Um no. Then the brother goes to call them on it seeing the bruises, but then he's like okay, you both like it rough, issue resolved. And sorry, but it is an issue. Really, just put a caution in your title description, then readers who do not care for this kind of read will be forewarned. First book by this author but if the rest of her books are like this I have been forewarned now. Thanks, but I'll pass.
  • I am in Love with the Bennett Boys! This series has been fantastic so far and I can’t wait for the last brothers book. Riding Hard is Mark and Katelyn story and oh what a story it is! Mark is very withdraw, Moody and the older brother of the group. Katelyn is new to town and doesn’t take crap from anyone, I loved her feistiness! When these two come together the chemistry is so real and undeniable, it sucks you in. I can’t say enough about this story just buy it already! I loved it so much I purchased my own copy but I also, am voluntarily leaving my honest review after reading this arc.
  • Katelynn is new to town and now the new events coordinator at the resort in Great Falls. Mark is the oldest of three, he lives and works on the  Bennett Boys Ranch owned by his family. Katelynn and Mark meet when Mark goes to pay for a event she's planning. Instant sparks but Mark is to dark for her light and wants to keep her at a distance. Can Mark resist his urge for Katelynn? Will Katelynn open his eyes to a new way of life? Will they get a HEA?

New York Times-bestselling team Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton invite readers to come hang out with them in their 104-Story Treehouse—the eighth book in the illustrated chapter book series filled with Andy and Terry's signature slapstick humor!

Andy and Terry live in a 104-story treehouse. (It used to be a 91-story treehouse, but they decided it was still missing a few things.) It has a never-ending staircase, a burp bank, a deep-thoughts thinking room, Mount Everest, a mighty fortress reinforced with extra-strong fortress reinforcer, and a money-making machine (that also makes honey!).

When Andy has a toothache that hurts so bad he can’t write any jokes for their new book, Terry knows just what to do buy a Joke Writer 2000™ to write the jokes for them! All they need first is some money from their money-making machine and then it’s off to the store. It’s a foolproof plan—a Terry-proof one, even!

What could go wrong?

Juliet School of Possibilities A Little Story About the Power of Priorities Audible Audio Edition Laura Vanderkam Penguin Audio Books Reviews

  • This is Laura Vanderkam's first "business fable," and it's a great one, perhaps better than many other business fables I have read. I felt this one connected with my own work experience more than some others. This book is a great way to get introduced to the principles of productivity and time management that Vanderkam writes about in her nonfiction works in a story that sticks with you.

As a work of fiction, I enjoyed way Vanderkam developed her characters and set the scene. I could envision that inn at the beach, the exhilarating bike ride, and even feel the main character's excitement when she had a great idea. I won't spoil the ending, and almost wished the book were a little longer, but if you want a book to reset or remind you of what's important, this is a great one. This book makes a great gift for new hires or new college graduates - and I LOVE the cover.

One of my favorite quotes "“Our actions determine our courses. How we live our hours is how we live our lives.” Juliet paused. “Could how you live your hours lead to a place where you can’t even say what you’re proud of?"
  • Juliet’s School of Possibilities will resonate with anyone challenged to build a career while also finding time for sleep – much less a personal life. The amount of wisdom packed into this fable astounds me. The main character Riley makes many of the same mistakes I do, and seeing her careen towards disaster strengthens my backbone to take the time to prioritize and strategize, (and say no!) rather than just reacting to the seemingly urgent matters demanding my attention. Author Laura Vanderkam distills her many time management and productivity books into a few simple rules to live by, which are easy to remember because of the story built around them. You’ll enjoy the quick read and the lessons will stay with you. Highly recommend.
  • I’m a huge Laura Vanderkam fan since reading “Off the Clock” last year, so I was excited for the arrival of “Juliet’s School of Possibilities A Little Story About the Power of Priorities” to arrive on release day (today!). This quick read (took me an hour & fifteen minutes) is a fun story that teaches important - and real - points about the importance of the choices we make and the priorities we set with our time. Choose to spend an hour with this book - it could change your life!
  • Great little book. It is much harder to write a small book than a big one. Most people will take away the repeated theme of “I have all the time in the world.” I liked the gem hidden in the future vision of who gets to be CEO. Why not Rylie? Someone has to be. ;) I hope that this becomes a classic for next gen business women, much like The E-Myth by Michael Gerber.
  • The “parable” at the beginning was very predictable and the questions to ask ourselves after the story ended were also the same. This is not a book that will teach you anything you do not already know. Perhaps it is useful to answer some of the questions and do some thought but this ain’t rocket science by any means.
  • Juliet's School of Possibilities provides an enjoyable, bite-sized, and accessible introduction to Vanderkam's broader time management research and writing. For readers who find themselves inspired by Reilly's story and the prompts tucked into the back of the book, I strongly recommend Vanderkam's earlier books, including "I Know How She Does It" and "168 Hours." Both are longer, deeper dives into time management that inspired me to radically adjust my outlook on working motherhood.

I'll absolutely be passing on my copy of Juliet's to the next young colleague who comes to me asking "how in the world do you manage a career and kids and a life?" It's doable, even energizing, if you (to quote Juliet) "choose well."
  • I have followed Laura Vanderkam's blog and read her books for a few years now and was excited when she announced she was writing a business parable. I have become a lover of books written in this style and this one did not disappoint! The characters are lovable and the storyline is not over the top at all. There are good principles to take from such a quick read. My favorite quote was - "'I don't have time' means 'It's not a priority.' We always have time for what matters to us."
If you want some quick tips and a book to help you rethink what you spend time on - buy this book. And I would also recommend listening to her new podcast (titled Before Breakfast).
  • If you have never read any of Laura Vanderkam's work, this is a great place to begin your journey to taking control of your time and your life. It’s a short but impactful read that illustrates the power of priorities. The parable format makes it easy to understand that the answer is really in your choices. After you read this, you'll want to pick up Off the Clock or 168 Hours to put what you learned into place.

Save Me from Myself How I Found God Quit Korn Kicked Drugs and Lived to Tell My Story edition by Brian Welch Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

  • My 26 yr old son has been an addict since his early teens. Music has been a source of great enjoyment and comfort to him over the years, both listening and playing. He is in jail currently, so I have been trying to bring him books written by recovering addicts that he can relate to. He really loved this one! After his cellmate reads it, the book will be donated to the jail. Hopefully other inmates with similar struggles can find some hope through this story.
  • I came to this book in a roundabout way. I was looking at videos on YouTube about tattoos as I have several tats and I always like to see the work of different studios and the types of art folks choose to put on their bodies. When I came to one titled "Brian Welch of Korn Gets Tattooed", I had to have a look at this wild-looking long-haired guy. He told a bit of his story to the artist and I was intrigued, so I looked up more information on him.

I am not a Heavy Metal fan. It gets on my nerves and gives me a headache. My musical tastes run to folk rock, bluegrass, blues and various music from other countries.I liked Van Halen in my younger years, but by today's standards I do not consider that to be true Heavy Metal. I remember hearing of Korn in the 90's but couldn't tell you a single song I knew by them. The more videos I watched of Brian and his conversion the more I realized how far away I have gotten from my Christian upbringing. I was saturated in it - Christian school where they really liked scaring us kids with films and stories about the end of time and church every Sunday and Wednesday. I was an awkward kid and was bullied a lot; subsequently I rebelled in my adolescence with drugs and drinking which continued up into my mid 20's with the drugs and into my 40s with the drinking. And horrible relationships with men always left me devastated so I have found myself at age 51 jaded and bitter. I've been Buddhist, Sufi, Wiccan and others to varying degrees, seeking peace and understanding that I could never find. Anyhow, Brian Welch's story moved me, touched a place inside me that made me realize I truly want to be a better person.

I ordered this book and read it. All the things he had done during his heyday with Korn are all things that I have either been a part of myself or witnessed others doing. He is unflinchingly honest about his responsibility in his undertakings and blames no one but himself, which is a very hard thing to do. He came to Jesus without pressure from so-called Bible thumpers, just gentle urging from some Christians he knew when he reached out to them himself, wanting what they had. His journey to Christ was fraught with doubts and insecurities and it took awhile to wean himself off Meth but by God's grace he was eventually able to do so. I've never done Meth but I have researched a lot about the devastating toll it takes on users and their families, so for Brain to be able to kick it truly is a miracle, as it so addictive that one can be hooked after one use.

This man chose God and his daughter over money and fame and drugs, at at a fairly younger age than most troubled rock stars even begin to realize something's wrong. I have listened to some of his new music that's more spiritual and I honestly still do not care for the sound, but if he can reach those who do enjoy this type of music, if he can touch their souls, then it has my blessing. He has walked the walk and I for one am more inspired by him than I ever was by the hypocrites at the school I attended as a child. I think his faith is stronger than theirs will ever be.

A note about his writing some have complained in their reviews that it is poorly written. This is not true. No, it is not a masterpiece of literature nor was it intended as such. He does get his point across in what I find to be a well-spoken manner. He is so enthusiastic about his newfound life that he reminds me a bit of the late Steve Irwin who gushed in a childlike glee over snakes, crocodiles and other dangerous reptiles. This is not meant as an insult. I find it refreshing to see someone so excited about his relationship with Christ. Yes it is a bit childlike. but he was as a child since he was born again! I also appreciate that he shared both his "honeymoon phase" with Christianity and his dark nights of the soul when the novelty wore off.

    Well done autobiography.
  • This is an inspiring story that I'm sure was very difficult to write. It shows that even in the depths of our sin, God still relentlessly pursues us to show us that He's crazy about us! There's nothing you can do that God hasn't seen, nothing you can say that God hasn't heard. He loves you unconditionally even when you feel that you can't even love yourself. This is a true story of God's redemptive grace and His limitless passion to have a relationship with each of us.
  • Heavy - Excellent, hard to put down. Im not a big reader, and I blazed through this book. Im a fair Korn fan (not fanatic, but enjoy their concerts / cds), and have recently returned to a focus on Christianity. I couldnt put it down. Its deep and well written, with a mix of wild rock and roll life stories, substance / life addictions, depression, the story of Korn, and a deep search for life's meaning, along with an exploration of the true point of religion and Christianity. This is real and down to earth, and not for the country club christian, nor the nieve / innocent, nor those who just want to feel better. Its for real people who have struggled, asked the hard questions, made their share of mistakes, and/or struggled with faith. Its also for those who want to see real change, and understand real Christianity rather than feel good at the dog and pony show. The first half / 2/3rds is more the life story, korns story, and struggles. Its pretty raw. There is a young adult friendly version of this book which might be better for those who arent as familiar with the darker parts of the rock and roll / addiction lifestyle. The later part is not just about him coming to Christ, but also a deep exploration of what that means and doesnt mean, how his faith was strenghtened and deepened, and what leading a life for Christ is all about, through both good times and trials. Will an athiest enjoy this book - yes. Will a beginning Christan enjoy this book - yes. Will someone struggling with (any) addiction enjoy this book - probably, but likely only if they are truely interested in change. Will this book cause change? It will certainly grease the wheels and plant some seeds. It definitely teaches you some lessons you never got in sunday school. Well Done!
  • I decided to read this book after it was recommended on Goodreads and multiple times. I honestly never listened to Korn or knew anything about the band or Brian Welch. But I remembered he became a Christian and had struggled with drug addiction. I actually really enjoyed this book. It definitely shows you the dark side of the music business and touring. I particularly liked that Mr. Welch was attending a church similar to what I'm familiar with so I related to speaking in tongues and demons. Excellent book for Christians, especially those of us who aren't "perfect" Christians.
  • I always have respect for famous people who take a stand for Jesus and share their story. This book gets a little bogged down in some parts but it's a great example of how much our Father will fight for us to find our place in His plan and how patient He is with us! Great testimony! Thanks for sharing in a way that anyone can understand how to find life and balance and faith.

"Behind the Bench has quickly become one of the best hockey books I've read. It's a smooth read, the storytelling is top notch, the insight is terrific and the way Craig gets these coaches to open up in a way you don't often see them do publicly (both personality wise and X's and O's wise) is phenomenal. I actually found myself sifting through these signature games while following along in the book, and it felt like I was in the film room with them. Each chapter seemingly gets better than the previous one, with all 10 coaches providing a different/unique perspective. Highly recommend to every hockey fan."

  • Behind the Bench has quickly become one of the best hockey books I've read. Each chapter seemingly gets better than the previous one, with all 10 coaches providing a different/unique perspective. Highly recommend to every hockey fan.
  • I love hockey and write for a hockey website. I have also followed Craig Custance for several years and try to read or listen to everything he puts out. When I heard he wrote this book, I had to read it. It is one of the best hockey books I've ever read. Every chapter is slightly different so there is no redundancy. The best part is that the book has something for non-hockey fans as well. This is especially true of the Mike Babcock chapter which is filled with leadership thoughts that anyone can find useful.
  • This is a great read. With inside access to 10 of the most successful coaches in the game, you'll pick up some lessons on tactics, funny stories about team pranks, and plenty of the emotion and insight that comes from players and coaches who have reached the pinnacle of their sport. But what I found most interesting about this book were the insights on how to motivate people, manage organizations, and treat others with respect that are applicable to business, family, and personal relationships in any context. Drop the Org Management & Leadership course in your MBA and read this instead.
  • Great insights and perspective on some of the best games in recent history. The insights on various leadership styles and thought processes are great outside of the hockey realm and even better for the big hockey fan. I enjoyed how the story weaved through the adventure of how all the interviews were captured and each coaches personality. I thought of all the other coaches that I would've loved to hear from and didn't want it to end.
  • Start with the hook, which is talking to some contemporary hockey coaches about important moments in the game, and then add in fun with technology, moments of doubt, family time and buying an RV, and your only halfway to covering the map that Craig Custance navigates in this gem of a book. (And he does it with fewer words packed into my opening sentence.) Craig leaves you with a better understanding of the coaches he interviews, and you get more layers of the writer that Craig has become. I followed him for behind the paywall of The Sporting News to ESPN the Website and now The Athletic and The Full 60 podcast. Consider this book part of that excellent journey.
  • This is a great read. Craig lays out a simple idea, "tell the story of watching great games with great coaches," and then does so in a beautifully layered way that tells you so much more than just how the coach prepared his team for said game. You come away from this book having relived a hugely significant hockey game, understanding more about how each coach coaches, and who each coach is at his core.

The way this book digs into ideas not just about hockey but also leadership, team building and motivation is fascinating.

    Loved it.
  • Craig is able to share a very personal moment with some of the best coaches in the league which in turn provides a more personal look at how these coaches think and view the game, the world, life in general. It's not X's and O's, it's about the memories of their proudest achievements and how they got there. This book is excellent and essential for any adult involved with athletics to remember the human side of coaching and dealing with players.
  • I think Craig killed it with this book. Getting to see how some of these guys think the game and interact with their players is similar to the behind the scenes shows like HBO 24/7 for the winter classic games, except you hear their point of view and what they are thinking. I think anyone interested in hockey will learn a great deal from this book. Players at any age or playing level, coaches, and parents can take a lot from this book. Check out his podcast the full 60 which is great too. Craig hope you can do the book idea with players like with the Dartyl Belfry podcast!

Tiny changes, remarkable results

No matter your goals, Atomic Habits offers a proven framework for improving - every day. James Clear, one of the world's leading experts on habit formation, reveals practical strategies that will teach you exactly how to form good habits, break bad ones, and master the tiny behaviors that lead to remarkable results.

If you're having trouble changing your habits, the problem isn't you. The problem is your system. Bad habits repeat themselves again and again not because you don't want to change, but because you have the wrong system for change. You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems. Here, you'll get a proven system that can take you to new heights.

Clear is known for his ability to distill complex topics into simple behaviors that can be easily applied to daily life and work. Here, he draws on the most proven ideas from biology, psychology, and neuroscience to create an easy-to-understand guide for making good habits inevitable and bad habits impossible. Along the way, listeners will be inspired and entertained with true stories from Olympic gold medalists, award-winning artists, business leaders, life-saving physicians, and star comedians who have used the science of small habits to master their craft and vault to the top of their field.

Learn how to

  • Make time for new habits (even when life gets crazy)
  • Overcome a lack of motivation and willpower
  • Design your environment to make success easier
  • Get back on track when you fall off course
  • And much more

Atomic Habits will reshape the way you think about progress and success and give you the tools and strategies you need to transform your habits - whether you are a team looking to win a championship, an organization hoping to redefine an industry, or simply an individual who wishes to quit smoking, lose weight, reduce stress, or achieve any other goal.

"Disclaimer: I scored the jackpot and got my grubby paws on this early.

I didn't see myself getting especially excited about this book. I was like, "OK James. I like you. You seem like a nice guy. Your work is very link-able and that's made my life simpler on many an occasion. I TOTALLY FEEL SPECIAL because you have involved me (*marginally) in your ~process~. But habits? *yawn* What-evvvvver. Btw, I already know LIKE EV-UH-RYTHING because I read Charles Duhigg's book and was early on the Fogg method game. Ergo: I am The Expert. Bow down b*tches." <--Ok just kidding on that last line. But BA-sicallyy.

My inner world is................. a special place.

I didn't think I was going to get hype about a book about habits, yet here we are. I am hype about a book.... about habits. Why??? Why has this drama-loving, big picture adoring, enthusiastic creature shifted keys to start singing song of habits? Because it's unflattering. And that's EXACTLY why we need to self-examine.

Here's the thing:
Every person reading this review (also, hi!) has bad habits.
Every person reading this review has good ones.
And - I would wager - every person reading this review has unfinished business.

There's some dream, change, or new echelon of self-actualization you have yet to inhabit. The problem isn't your ambitions -- it's your habits. James wrote something powerful I will directly quote when writing with book in hand. The message is this: success isn't determined by the scale of your dreams. Winners and losers have the same dreams. But the winners have better habits.

There are a number of ~juicy nuggets~ that will come out of the woodwork to slap your b*tch-ass into line. I doubled back on more than one occasion. Check out his Instagram -- he's been sharing a number of nice one liners. But if you're like......... 80% of the way there, you might as well.

This book is:
- Actionable
- Pragmatic
- Grounded <-- woah!
- Science-y
- Sweet
- Readable <-- nice.

My advice:
1. If you're this deep in the reviews section, buy the book.
2. Seriously, buy the book.
3. While you wait for it to arrive, mentally accept that James Clear will not personally pry the donut from your grip and supervise your situps.
4. Open your Amazon package.
5. Read the book.
6. Learn things.
7. Implement said things.
8. Rinse repeat.
9. *Flourish*

Thanks for reading along. It's been an honor! *hat tip, bows*"

Atomic Habits Tiny Changes Remarkable Results Audible Audio Edition James Clear Penguin Audio Books Reviews

  • I've read a lot of books on changing behavior and building habits and James Clear's Atomic Habits is my new favorite. This book is different from others in the way it covers an enormous amount of ground in the larger area of self-improvement while seamlessly tying all these ideas back into the central theme of habits.

One of the core concepts in Atomic Habits is to focus on the small improvement. The impact a 1% improvement per day can make may appear negligible at first, but Clear makes a compelling argument that in the case of habits, thinking small produces the biggest results over time. "Habits are the compound interest of self-improvement," explains Clear.

Over the months and years, the accumulated effect of small habitual daily behaviors is staggering. Early in the book we are also warned that this compounding works both ways, so we'd better make sure we're making it work in the positive direction, not for the negative.

This is a concept I was introduced to years ago under a different name - Kaizen - the Japanese term for continuous incremental improvement. What's different and new in this book is how the concept is applied specifically to building habits.

I found the information introduced in chapter two about behavior change at the identity level to be spot-on. You're also given a simple two-step process for changing your identity and this one idea alone is incredibly powerful.

In chapter three, we are introduced to the habit loop - cue, craving, response, reward - and we learn how to build good habits in 4 simple steps and break bad habits in 4 simple steps.

One of those steps to habit formation, which goes hand in hand with the 1% concept, is how to make it not only small, but easy. In the chapters that follow, this is exactly what you find out.

Other ideas of great value that stood out included, habit stacking (the best way to form a new habit), habit tracking, habit shaping and how to design your environment - physical and social - for habit building success. You learn the truth about self-control, how to stop procrastinating and how to use implementation intentions, temptation bundling and motivational rituals. The book is simply packed with actionable ideas, tactics and strategies.

Virtually every idea in the book is useful and resonated with me. While I may not agree that we should "forget about goals," I agree with one of Clear's core principles in the book - that we must develop systems for change. If we only focus on goals and don't develop systems and a focus on the process, we risk falling into a number of goal-related traps which ultimately lead to stagnation. With the right systems, we're rewarded with continuous improvement on a lifelong journey of success.

Another difference between Atomic Habits and other books in this genre is that while it's based on science it doesn't bog you down with unnecessary details of the research. Clear's book is intensely practical, giving you a huge toolkit of organized and named strategies you can apply immediately to create and strengthen positive habits and stop the negative ones.

The book is conversational, and includes many interesting stories, making it easy to read - and hard to put down (I read it cover to cover in one day).

It's possible this might become your most highlighted personal improvement book because every page is so chocked full of memorable and quotable gems of advice.

From author and psychotherapist Dr. Brian Weiss comes the classic bestseller on the true case of the past-life therapy that changed the lives of both the prominent psychiatrist and young patient involved—now featuring a new afterword by the author.

As a traditional psychotherapist, Dr. Brian Weiss was astonished and skeptical when one of his patients began recalling past-life traumas that seemed to hold the key to her recurring nightmares and anxiety attacks. His skepticism was eroded, however, when she began to channel messages from the “space between lives,” which contained remarkable revelations about Dr. Weiss’ family and his dead son. Using past-life therapy, he was able to cure the patient and embark on a new, more meaningful phase of his own career. With more than one million copies in print, Many Lives, Many Masters is one of the breakthrough texts in alternative psychotherapy and remains as provocative and timeless as it was when first published.

"I read this book after the death of my parents. It gave me so much comfort and honestly changed the way I feel about life. I no longer wonder "why me" about having a mentally ill daughter. I know that it is a life I chose (and she chose) to learn certain lessons and that helps me make it through each day. This book prompted me to read all of Brian's books and many more books about reincarnation and life selection. I still have down moments but nothing like before. Love this book and have recommended it to many others."

Many Lives Many Masters The True Story of a Prominent Psychiatrist His Young Patient and the PastLife Therapy That Changed Both Their Lives Brian L Weiss Books Reviews

  • As a secular Buddhist, I have been hoping to find evidence that would allow my mind to accept the notion that there is something larger than ourselves, something to be hopeful for after death. I have read many, many books on the topic (many of which I have reviewed here through ) and they have all been severe disappointments...until now.

While I will not go so far as to say that I am "convinced" after reading this book, I am far less closed to the notion of reincarnation/a life after death than I had been previously. I adopted the belief years ago that after death we just "turn off" like a computer and that was that. However, this belief left me with a lingering depression that I have not been able to shake, and that has led me to my current search for proof (or even just a "more likely than not" scenario) that my belief in nothing was wrong.

After reading "Proof of Heaven" by "Dr." Eben Alexander, and afterwards discovering his tarnished reputation and record, I was skeptical about reading yet another life after death book by a Dr. However, I can not find anything to point to Dr. Weiss being anything but genuine, honest and legitimate...and, I assure you, I have tried to find it....which, again, speaks volumes when you consider the poor reputations of others making similar claims.

The book was filled with examples that made me feel far more comfortable with what might happen after death. Again, I'm not quite ready to say I've changed my mind, but I am much less sure of my stance now; I have this book to thank for giving me that hope and opening my mind where others had failed.
  • I read this book after the death of my parents. Love this book and have recommended it to many others.
  • My brother recommended Many Lives, Many Masters to me. Had he not, I probably would not have read it. But this is one area where we really connect (intellectually) when we fail in other areas (emotionally, spiritually).

I used to believe in psychic phenomena. I used to believe I was actually psychic to a degree, all topics addressed in my memoir. I was born and raised Catholic but shied from Catholicism as the Church illustrated God as something to be terrified of and terrorized by. This was back in the 80’s when I was a wee child but I still never was able to get over the psychological trauma and the indelible God impression that was imprinted in my mind and soul with more fearful connotations than Satan.

I always preferred to believe in the mystical things, but whatever I believed in shattered when my mother died young of a heart attack at the age of 52. For over a decade, I’ve struggled with this impossible grief and inability to make sense of anything. I never asked my brother why he read this book. He never told me. He just said to read it and that it might change my perspective on things.

So I read it—in almost one sitting, which is practically damn near impossible with an 8 month old at your heels. I read some of it to him (because who says you can’t read a baby “adult” books?). At first I questioned whether this was some grand scheme that was concocted for mild fame and fortune… or at least some best selling recognition. But as I read more, the story rang true. It was either brilliant concocted with randomly missing pieces and gaps that just never were filled in to give it a ring of truth to it… or it just was… possibly true.

I’ve decided that I’m going to believe it’s true. I am glad I have made that decision because in doing so it has given me the first kind of peace I have felt in over a decade. I have a little bit of hope that one day I will be reconnected with my mother, my best friend and that we will have the chance to work though our relationship in a way we didn’t get to in this life time.

I’ve decided I’m going to use this life and not waste another second of it. I feel so much lighter making that decision. I have more patience with my little baby. It’s hard. I am not a single mother but I live like one. I only see my fiance on the weekends and my precious little baby zaps all of my energy but I started to see things differently, even in my moments of exhaustion. I’ve started to view him as a little being who chose to come back to this earth to be reunited with me and I have to do whatever is in my power to guide him on this journey and to help him learn his life lessons so we can both reach higher planes when we transition. I feel blessed that my little man chose me, not burdened anymore – which I was sometimes feeling in my isolation.

I even like to think that my mother and my grandmother had a hand in sending him down to me from “Heaven” or another plane/dimension…. somewhere up there. It has given me this immense appreciation for my little one and this book has given me a new way to look at life. I saw a mother behind me in the Starbucks drivethru today and I picked up the tab for her order. I just wanted to share something with her – mother-to-mother, to do a nice deed for someone else. I want to learn these life lessons not only for myself but I think it’s important for anyone that knows this information to share it and help others to reach their potential on this plane so they can transition over with ease when the time comes.

I have enough burdens in this life. I don’t want to carry them over when I cross. Maybe it’s all BS. But maybe it’s not. And the worst thing that can happen if it is BS and living like it’s not – is that we make the world a better place, regardless of what happens when it ends or when we end.

  • I really do like this series but gracious, I did not see this book coming. I feel like everything just fell apart and then the book ended and I'm sitting here stunned. Hurry up with book four please because my heart can't take all this sadness. The Dunam Prep Boys need their girl.
  • I love this book it was a fast and short read. I wish that it was a little longer and that it had more to it. I would definitely recommend this series to other people but I really wish that it was longer. I pre-ordered it as soon as the author put it up. I can't wait for the next book. Thank you so much.
  • I chugged this book like it was orange soda and I was Kel. I just couldn't put it down! I really like Skylar and her so very teenaged reactions. I'm so excited to see her standing up for her best interests even if it looks like it hurts for a while. I feel like there can be a HEA for these folks in the future! The guys are so clearly trying to figure out emotions, loyalties, and life. Its a very transitional time and the pressure of the events could only make everyone a little crazy! I only wish the guys could be as honest with Skyler as she was with them *cough*DEVIN*cough*. I can't wait for EVIL [VILLAIN] gets her just desserts.
  • I devoured this book as I have really enjoyed this series. This book was filled with high angst to the 10th degree. I was pissed off at all the characters at one point or another for their immaturity via lack off communication for the most part. Then I had to settledown and remind myself that these kids are in high school. The author has captured what she set out to create! I look forward to the next book in this series.
  • It is great quick read. I read it in one sitting. I can't wait to read what happens next. The little cliffhanger at the end has me intrigued!
  • This book ended with me needing more. The drama is brought forward so intense that I felt for each and every one . I’m ready for the next .
  • No it can't be left like that your need to hurry up and write the next book I'm emotionally invested in this series and need to know what happens next!!!
  • Not nearly enough of the characters together in this book. Mainly about their being kept apart the whole book and not sure if they are broken up or not.

The Good Neighbor The Life and Work of Fred Rogers eBook Maxwell King Reviews

  • Fred Rogers slowed down my sons' TV viewing thirty five years ago. Compared to Sesame Street, where every moment seemed spent in frenetic movement, the Mr Rogers show was calm and deliberately paced. Fred Rogers seemed to be able to speak directly to a child. I always wished I could speak so intimately to my own children but then most mothers I knew felt the same way. Fred Rogers is the subject of a superb new bio, "The Good Neighbor The Life and Work of Fred Rogers", by Maxwell King.

Fred Rogers was born to be "Mr Rogers". He was an only child for many years, born and raised in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburg. His family was very wealthy, owning local companies, and were liberal in their outlook. His mother, in particular, was very, very charitable in the community and both parents encouraged young Fred in his artistic interests. Fred went through a typical adolescence as a rich kid in a small town, complete with the embarrassment that age and wealth bring. He went to Dartmouth for two years - enduring endless partying in the wilds of New Hampshire by others - before transferring to Rollins College in Florida. He found a ready-made community of other music majors. He soon knew he wanted to combine music with the teaching of children. He met his wife, Joanne, at Rollins. He soon moved into the new medium of television and soon found his place. And he was perfect for public television, where he found a home after disagreeing with the monetizing of children's TV.

Fred Rogers came from a religious family. They had long been active in the Presbyterian Church and Fred eventually became a Presbyterian minister. I never thought he pushed his Christian beliefs in his show but I always appreciated the religious-aura he lent to his words.

Maxwell King takes a measured look at Fred Rogers, his career, and his huge influence on generations of children who were raised with his gentle voice and words. There wasn't much "wrong" in Fred Rogers' life; he was lucky that way, but he also worked at contributing to the society around him. Now that I have grandchildren, I miss Mr Rogers.
  • This is a definitive biography of Fred Rogers, bringing into focus the span of his entire life with ease, warmth and authority. The author did an excellent job creating a wonderful read, filled with details that will stay with the reader. We really need this biography to help keep Fred Roger's work and outlook alive. You will come away from this book with a deeper and richer appreciation of the varied landscape of his life and work. And you'll be richer for it. This book is important. A must read for people in all walks of life who care about children and our world. "The Good Neighbor", is a great book about an amazing human. Enjoy!
  • Reading Maxwell King 's biography of Fred Rogers (frequently with tears in my eyes), I wondered what words Mr. Rogers would have for us in a world characterized by intolerance, violence (much of it committed against the young), and a lack of authenticity. I am grateful for the opportunity to be immersed in the life, the work, and the legacy of the man behind the puppets that I enjoyed watching as a young child--full disclosure as a young Pittsburgher. This is the man who wrote on the back of photos of himself that I picked up for my sons at a conference keynoted by his executive producer, and took with me to Pittsburgh Theological Seminary to have him autograph when I heard he was in the continuing education class after mine, "Through the kindness of your dad." I learned so much about his history and his connections thanks to King's thorough research, and will be proud to continue delighting (or distressing) friends, family, and neighbors with my almost-daily renditions of "It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" as I walk out the backdoor, regardless of the weather, and into a world made better because Fred McFeely Rogers was (and continues to be) part of It.
  • Anyone who is not too old for apple juice and cookies is not too old for Mister Rogers! I simply could not put this excellent biography down! Mister Rogers' core virtue is compassion. King shows how Mister Rogers treats children with the utmost respect, but far more than a children's television host, Mister Rogers was a brilliant musician, playwright, and caring pastor. I was amazed that this sweet man avoided negativity even when presenting things about which he strongly disagreed. For example, in a Christmas show, he, as the writer, displays a dislike for the song "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" by having Santa tell Daniel Tiger that not a spy, and that good people are not always good - they only try to be good. Through Mister Rogers' example, I myself try to be good. As I reflect on my own childhood memories of television, I think of the other men on the shows I watched Gomez Addams was handsome and funny, but we never see him as a friend - we only see him with his family. Gordon on Sesame Street was with his television neighbors, but even when off-duty, he could not stop being a teacher - it was important for him to teach children, for example, the alphabet. As for Bozo, whom I never liked, we see him only at work as a clown - and King points out that Mister Rogers was against "clowns and balloons" being presented to children in their shows because children deserve far more than that - they deserve love and respect. Mister Rogers alone provides children with what they - and adults - need the most unconditional love. King presents Mister Rogers as the loving and compassionate neighbor whom everyone wants to have as a neighbor, and through King's book, I am trying very hard to be that sort of person.

"Practical and extremely useful activities/games for teaching. There are tons of activities and ideas that even if I used one per week, it'd take more than 3 years to give them a run through. While I use them for teaching my ESL students, but they are good also for any group activities, or ice breakers. I was able to download the free templates/sheets from signing in at their website. Shelley's pretty nice about checking in with me on whether the product was helpful or not.

I definitely recommend this book for all the teachers or home school parents out there!"

ESL Classroom Activities for Teens and Adults ESL games fluency activities and grammar drills for EFL and ESL students Shelley Ann Vernon Books Reviews

  • Tons of good ideas, and you can get a link to a free download of many games. I recently started teaching ESL to adult immigrants and refugees, and of the several books I bought to help myself, this is by far the most useful.
  • Within hours of receiving this book, I already had almost half of the page corners turned down to try with my adult beginners - who love games and fluency activities that are fun (sometimes competitive) and promote learning (sometimes surreptitiously).

The target audience for each activity is clearly outlined, needed preparation noted, and directions for play are easy to follow. A value-added bonus is the downloadable appendix that includes some samples and blank forms for those who have purchased the book. Teacher pre-teaching suggestions and variations for different language levels are included. Great resource!
  • I have found Shelley's book most helpful for me as a teacher new to ESL,  working with boys who have very little English.  Not only are the games and activities reasonably easy to prepare and set up, but her index system is really clear - which skill each game targets and which level(s) it would suit. There are often ideas for further adapting the activities, so you are getting a whole load of ideas in one book!  The version has a link back to the list of contents on just about every page, so moving around in the book is very simple and quick.  Using games and competitions is an obvious hook for keeping boys interested, and Shelley's fun ideas have really worked.  I also found her introductory section excellent, covering topics such as setting aims, planning sessions, using different teaching styles and dealing with the management of the session and of the learners.  I would thoroughly recommend this book.
  • I purchased this book two years ago to help me in my art classroom in the Northern VA area. With over 53% English Language Learners, I found this book to be extremely helpful. As an example, I taught a unit on Impressionism and one activity described how we can put words on a beach ball. When the ball is tossed to the students, they can then read the word that is under their thumb. Having students read "painterly" or "Edgar Degas" then saying these words out loud really helped themselves and others to say and hear the words, thus increasing their knowledge of the Impressionist period. (It beats them sitting at handouts all day, right)? This book is extremely helpful in my classroom and is a tool for the ESL student in any classroom. Those who are saying negative things about this book have never had ESL students in your class, I'd venture to say, and you are nit-picking at the occasional spelling mistake; however, the overall meaning is not lost. I have used this book for two years and have not seen one mistake. This book is crammed full of games that are very age-appropriate for high school students and adults, just like the title says, but I imagine some of the games can be adapted to younger children. For those who have not worked with ESL students, many are not at the AP level and can benefit at a game of Hangman. Totally worth buying.
  • I teach a mix of business people and students from other counties who want to attend U.S. universities in an intensive English program and was looking for activities to supplement our institution's textbooks. This book is fantastic. It's jam-packed with creative ideas to get students moving and thinking in English. The Grammar Auction was an especially huge hit. Thank you, Shelley, for writing this book. You have helped me breathe new life into my classes.
  • I have taught foreign languages and ESL for 20 years now and bought this book over a year ago for some fresh ideas. While at first I was a bit frustrated by the formatting/referencing (it just didn't seem as easy to find the activity I needed to teach the skill I wanted the students to learn/practice as other books I've used in the past), I eventually figured it out and have used this book as a resource for over a year now. The activities are fun and interesting and engage my learners. When recently I needed to download cards to go with an activity and had issues doing so, I emailed the author and she promptly responded warmly and effectively to my need. I was able to get the cards and do the activity with my students same day. I highly recommend Ms. Vernon's book and other resources she has available on her website as well.
  • Practical and extremely useful activities/games for teaching. There are tons of activities and ideas that even if I used one per week, it'd take more than 3 years to give them a run through. I definitely recommend this book for all the teachers or home school parents out there!
  • The book offers some simple games to use to help teach ESL students. Because I work one-on-one or in pairs, many games would not work for me, but I have found and used a few ideas successfully. I would recommend the book because games make learning more engaging and interesting. It's also more fun for me!
